Exclusive: Treasure Madness Interview

[UPDATE] Hello! If this is your first visit to Social Game Central, please consider becoming a Facebook fan using the button on the right, or subscribing to our Twitter or RSS updates for all the latest news on Treasure Madness and all your favorite Facebook games.

Social Game Central was lucky enough to speak to Treasure Madness developer zSlide recently about their hit treasure-digging title. We tried our best to dig up some treasure of our own for fans of the game, and while zSlide proved to be a cagey bunch and kept things close to the chest, we did come away with some bits of news on what Treasure Madness fans have to look forward to. Best of all, we also have a sneak peak at a big change coming soon to one of TM’s minigames…

A big thank you for zSlide for being good sports and putting up with all our questions they weren’t able to answer. And an even bigger thank you for the news on upcoming enhancements and additions they were able to share with us!

Social Game Central: Thanks speaking with Social Game Central! First off, for those that aren’t familiar, can you tell us a little but about zSlide, and Treasure Madness?

zSlide: zSlide has been in social gaming for 3 years. Initially we created our own portal, pictogame.com, which lets you customize flash games to post on your blog or social network profile.
In July 2009 we launched the preview of TM, initially named Treasure Mania. And we followed-up with a more complete version, renamed to Treasure Madness in November 2009. The game is still evolving very fast, hence we still call it beta.

SGC: Quick-eyed players have noticed that when skipping a minigame, there are a couple of new names and icons! Very sneaky. One title I noticed was “Wooden Maze.” Can you tell us anything about these? [Ed. Note: This interview was conducted before the new Wooden Maze minigame was released]

zS: Yes it appeared first as a teaser but we’ve released it now. I hope you like it.

SGC: First Christmas received exclusive treasures and maps, then New Year’s, and most recently Valentine’s. Is the plan to continue releasing holiday-themed maps and treasures in 2010?

zS: We are getting a lot of positive feedback on this kind of seasonal content, so yes, we’ll probably keep on doing it.

SGC: Although there have been lots of improvements and additions to Treasure Madness over the last few months, observant players have noticed we’re still in “Chapter 1: The Americas.” Does this mean future chapters are on the way? How would a new Chapter be different than a normal game update?

zS: First off, along with yesterday’s release, we renamed “Chapter 1″ to “Book 1″. You might think it suggests a Book 2 down the line… but I can’t elaborate on that yet.

SGC: Any plans for something really challenging for advanced players? Maybe a new, high-HP tile?

zS: Thanks for the suggestion. We’ll think about it.

SGC: Right now most advanced players are well beyond master-level for the 6 current minigames. Could they be made more difficult at high-levels in the future? Or will they remain unchanged?

zS: When you get to a high level, the duration granted to achieve the game gets shorter and shorter. But we’re working on it to increase the challenge further.

SGC: Anything else you’d like to tell Treasure Madness fans to look forward to? I’m sure they would really love a sneak-preview of something… ;)

zS: How about an alternate Gold Rush game, specifically tailored to our arachnophobic players:

Thanks again to zSlide. Treasure Madness is one of our favorite Facebook games here at SGC, so here’s to hoping there’s lots more to come from zSlide.

How can I acquire the last 2 items for the valentine maps??? I finished all the maps, and my 4 of 13 teammates that actually play don’t have then either. I would gladly trade some of the 26 extra valentine cards I’ve found for them.

i love treasure madness and i am a level 107, so i have been playing awhile, i hate the way the bonus game has changed, it is suppossed to be a BONUS the blank space is not appropriate. As for the gold rush, it makes me sick when i see those spiders and i dont even want to play the gold rush.just change those 2 things and i would be a very happy player

Still very frustrating when I lose HP because I level up. I try to time it but life happens sometimes and it takes so long to get almost full HP. Feels like it’s all for nothing! Can we get some kind of credit? Turn unused HP into fruit? Also, reiterate the previous points re: too many duplicate treasures and I have sooooo many collections that are just missing one piece. I give away my extras but even my friends don’t want them anymore! Love the game though! Thanks

Yes, TM is addicting game, i am addicted, but they have loads of minuses from me. I am unhappy that lately i have discovered many treasures, but all the same, and for example i have like 15 love cards, numbers of lollipops and bears…. That is about valentines special maps. I cannot finish few collections coz simply im not fining other treasures. And i am not getting missing items from my team coz simply they have found one and they secured. So they dont have for trade.
And the same situation is in normal maps. Im finding low rarity treasures which i have secured ages ago, like my teammates…..
I am dissapointed becouse of costs of many helpers/items. That is just crazy, and i will not spend a real penny to get Mu$. We should have opportunity to win somehow more Mus or to buy them for gold which we have colected. And 100 Mu$ for one upgrade?!?!?! C’mon!!!!

Well, but i am still a player ;) So that game have something which makes me playing :-D

Love Foot print island and finding new treasures each time i redo it.
When i redo fruity maps hardly any fruit there so rather dissapoinet with that so wont redo them again.

    Keep up the good work
One last thing why so many repeats of the same item as that is so annoying for a bloody good game.

I am a level 160+ player, i wish all the upgrades take so many mus$ and not fair to have to use a credit card to get should be able to use our Gold to purhase…thanks i do love the game…

i have become very addicted to this game it is very annoying to loose hp after just buying them with mus $,as i have leveled up, is there no way we can be credited with them. I have been playing from the very start and enjoy it. i agree with all the others about to many repeats of items. loved all the special maps and i try to finish them.Is there any way you could put up a list of how many treasures are to be found on eachmap,as well as extra mus $ for completeing a map.that would save having to buy them,as i am not one to buy them.(afraid of hackers). don’t like the new mouse game. thank you for giveing me a chance to air my thoughs.keep up the good work and maps.

TM is a great game. I am at level 161 I believe or a little higher lol The game does have a few issues. I have supported this game as I feel that the only way we can keep good games around is by supporting them. This is one of those rare gems that come along . So join in the fun and of course it is still in beta , but zslide is pretty good on keeping their player base happy .

Please stop making maps that cost museum money or the ones that cost an insane amount of coins. I am a 176 and there is barely anything left for me to do and tons of collections I have yet to finish. I agree with many above that the price of some of the upgrades, especially the shovel, is ridiculous. After upgrading the shovel only once I dont have enough museum money to buy the maps that require mu$. Also please limit the number of times you can get a item. I have gotten a few items over 10 times. Make coins a little more easier to make. I can barely afford the high cost maps.

Love the game but please hurry and release some more maps that dont require insane amounts of museum cash or coins.

I’d like to post the same suggestion I posted in the forum. I’d be willing to pay a certain amount of mu$ in order to select a game to permanently delete from my rotation. In my thread in the forum, there are a few others who would be interested in such a feature.

It’s only 1hp to spin past a game, but this suggestion would mean that 1) a person doesn’t have to keep spinning past the same game over and over and over again, and 2) it’s another thing you could offer that would require mu$.

All of these games in beta stage on myspace and facebook (I play on facebook) have regular currency and some kind of premium currency that comes to you hard and that you can buy with real money if you choose. A lot of games downright stonewall you until you buy their premium currency.

I understand those funds may be needed to continue developing the application, but TM hasn’t stonewalled me. I’d be willing to pay mu$ for this suggested feature, and since TM’s been very fair with mu$–I haven’t needed to buy any at all yet in order to advance in the game, yeah, I’d buy some in order to delete a game from my rotation. This game is fantastic.

5, 10, or even 20 mu$ for a player to permanently delete a game from their rotation? Yeah, I’d go for that.

my only beef with game is that i have finished all maps[except golden] and there appear to be several collections i haven’t even started! my team-mates have things on there wish-lists i can’t possibly help with as i don’t even possess them myself! team-mates over 100 levels below me are finding treasures that i’ve never seen!doesn’t seem fair to me! love the game though!

I’ve finished all my Maps except 1. Now I have 154,000. gold pts nothing to buy with. A lot of fruit and 50 item still left to complete the collection. What do I do now.The item that are rare my team canit exchange with me because I’m way ahead ot the game

Not everyone can afford to purchase M$ for real money. Some of us are disabled or living on a small pension. Maps should either not be released for purchase with only M$, or you should not be so stingy with the M$. I have over 150,000 coins & 4 M$, so I am forced to sit here for days waiting for you to toss me a bone(put out more obtainable maps).

  2. am fed up with keep losing team wanted lists. team names are there but 40 out of 250 lists are missing Why??

I like this game and is named appropriately. It drives me mad when I use MU point to get HP’s and you level up and lose the HP’s I just bought. A blank space in the bonus round? Why? Thanks for that. If I have 8 Team Members and they all send Health Kits why do I only get one. Do you have a version of this game out that you can purchase?

I used to be a complete Treasure Madness addict, until today. The day I ventured into the Forum.

Now, we all know what a Forum is for. You get hints, you discuss the game. The Admins are there to be helpful and encourage gameplay.

Today, I found the thread where the Admins are gossiping about the players who post. Saying very mean, nasty things, in public. Having the general attitude that they truly hate the players, except for their own little Admin clique.

    That doesn’t help.

So many changes have happened to the game and are still happening. It became rather unappealing, and I went from playing 3 or 4 times a day to once a week. Today, I’m deleting it.

How sad to discover that TM is a game that truly hates its players. How disturbing.
