Happy Aquarium Adds Chinese New Year Props

Happy Aquarium developer Crowdstar apparently didn’t want to be left out of the Year of the Tiger celebrations going on in so many Facebook games, so earlier today they got into the act themselves. Three Asian-themed props are now available in the Happy Aquarium shop: Money Tree, Tiger Statue, and Glowing Lantern. Although not the most extensive collection, more choice is always a good thing, I say.

My theory on all these games getting into the Year of the Tiger action? It’s really just an excuse to add Pagodas, Tigers, Fireworks, and other more exotic elements to their games. Farm (and aquarium, and pet) owners on Facebook tend to rebel somewhat when very outlandish elements are added to their favorite game. But when it’s done as a tie-in to a specific, real-world event, some of that fan backlash is blunted.

I, for one, like these more exotic props. If I wanted a fish tank with just gravel and some plants, I could get the real thing.
