Treasure Isle Gem Mine Coming Soon

Treasure Isle developer Zynga began teasing a new Gem Mine feature, this week. Details are scarce – all we know for certain is that players will be able to receive one gem of any color once every 24 hours. Nice!

No word yet on how the Gem Mine is obtained, but given that a big portion of Treasure Isle revolves around the gem gates, we’re assuming it won’t be easy. It could be a premium item only available for Island Cash, or perhaps it will be a structure that can only be built with the help of a player’s Treasure Isle neighbors.

All we know for certain is that we want one. Orange and Blue gems are just way too rare!

Castle Age Giving Away Free Favor Points

Fantasy Facebook RPG Castle Age announced a free fan appreciation event this week, with free Favor Points (the game’s premium currency) up for grabs.

The promotion is pretty simple. On the game’s free gifts tab, there is a new Favor Mystery Gift that players can send to their Castle Age neighbors. Once received, the gift will award the recipient a random number of Favor Points, from 20 a max of 1000. This Favor Mystery gift can only be redeemed one time per player, to prevent stockpiling free Favor Points.

What did you spend your free Favor Points on? Leave a comment and let us know!

Happy Island Adds Medieval Fantasy Props

Happy Island developer Crowdstar has added a variety of props that the company described as being Medieval themed, but in our opinion Fantasy would be a much better descriptor. We aren’t convinced that walking trees and hobbit homes existed in Medieval times!

In any case, the new Lord of the Rings inspired items and attractions are: Leaf Dome, Hillside Cottage, Black Pillar, White Castle, Forest Walker, The Forest Gate, Castle Wall I, Castle Wall II, Castle Moat I, and Castle Moat II. All the new attractions are limited editions, and will be permanently unavailable after their supply dwindles to 0. The decorations are permanent additions to the Happy Island shop and will not expire.

Cafe World Adds New Spices

Cafe World developer Zynga has finally given chefs a few new spices to work with! The Spice Rack feature launched several months ago to much fanfare, but since then it has largely been untouched. Zynga fixed that today, giving players three brand new spices.

Mastery Mint gives players+1 additional mastery when cooking a dish. 12 Hour Thyme reduces a dish’s cooking time by (you guessed it) 12 hours. Lastly, there is a mysterious Magic Spice. Zynga isn’t spilling the beans on what its effect is. If anyone has the scoop, leave a comment below and let us know!

Ranch Town Adds New Prairie Space

Ranch Town developer Meteor Games gave players a large plot of new ranch space today, but it can’t be used for farming. Instead, this new green “prairie” space is just used for decorations. It comes with one run down shack, but players will need to supply the other ranch decorations themselves. Our guess is the shack will soon be upgradeable into a proper ranch home.

Players can also purchase a new Fertile Pasture to increase their total amount of farmable land as well. The expansion costs 100,000 coins, and increases the total farm space to 23×16.

Mafia Wars ‘Beat the Feds’ Event Begins

Mafia Wars developer Zynga is giving players a chance to take a break from Las Vegas, and practice their boss fighting skills. Players have ten days to defeat Agent Karlin, Agent Miller, D.E.A. Iverson, and D.A. Embry. The Mafia Wars fan page has a full description of the event, so we’ll let them do the talking for us:

“Are you ready for the Mafia Wars Boss Fight Event? Starting this Friday, you’ll get your chance to beat the Feds! For 10 days, you’ll be taking on 4 bosses with the help of your mafia, and will work on earning a coveted mastery item for Las Vegas. The bosses will each have 3 levels for you to beat. Once you beat them all at the first level, you progress to the next level to continue fighting for your mastery. Each level you complete will give you a special reward, so be sure to finish them all to claim all the prizes!

You’ll have to work quickly to beat the clock, so you can spread the word to your mafia to give you a hand. Helpers will be able to fight a boss as if they are facing the boss themselves. Here’s where it pays to be strong – the toughest helpers who do the most damage per boss fight will receive additional rewards like experience, Vegas cash, fight tokens, and LE items for their help.

If you want to pack a solid punch, you can prepare for battle by making sure you have plenty of consumables like health kits, shivs, and stun guns to help you along the way. There’s also safety in numbers – go recruit some new members to your mafia before the battle begins to better your odds of victory.”

Happy Pets Releases Pet Replicator

Cloning technology might not be practical in real life, but that hasn’t stopped Crowdstar from rolling out the feature in Happy Pets. It makes sense, considering that this is a game that allows people to keep bears, dinosaurs, unicorns, and other fantastical creatures.

The feature is pretty simple. Players can purchase a Pet Replicator for $12, and use it on any pet they own. The player will then receive an exact copy of that pet in their Gift Box. The price might be a little high, but Happy Pets is full of rare, very limited pets. This replicator is the only way to receive a copy of a pet that is no longer for sale.

Social City Adds Water Park Raffle Items

Social City developer Playdom has updated the in-game item raffle, with a new water park mega building up for grabs. To obtain the new water park, players first need to collect all eight parts.

Each time a player spins the wheel in the in-game newspaper, they will receive one of the eight Water Park pieces, chosen at random. Each spin costs 8 City Bucks, meaning players will be spending a minimum of 64 CB$ (about $12) to get this attraction, and potentially much more, if they have unlucky raffle wheel spins.

Personally, we aren’t big fans of this raffle format. We think a good rule of thumb is to only allow games of chance in social game elements involving in-game currency. Once real cash is involved, it makes us uneasy that some players will spend much more money obtaining an item than others.

My Empire Adds New Chichen Itza Wonder

A new Wonder is available for My Empire players to build: Chichen Itza. To complete construction however, player will need to first defeat plenty of the new enemy pirates.

Each pirate defeated will give players either coins, Emerald, Ruby, or Topaz. These rare goods can then be used to complete construction of the Wonder. The Wonder might not be historically accurate, considering the town My Empire players are building is ostensibly Roman, but it certainly does look cool, doesn’t it?

Restaurant City Releases Bowling Items

Every time we think social game developers must surely be running out of expansion themes, one of them does something so off-the-wall that we realize the expansion idea well will likely never run dry. Playfish is the most recent example, releasing a collection of bowling themed items in Restaurant City this week.

New decorations include: bowling lane floor tiles, oversized bowling pins and balls, bowling sign, waitress, bowling lane table, and more.

The item collection isn’t as extensive as some that have hit Restaurant City, but Playfish has made up for this lack of volume with an elaborate fully-animated Bowling Alley prop. Players can actually see their customers bowling strikes or gutter balls, and can earn some extra cash with the decoration. To unlock it, players must fully master the new PFC Family Bucket recipe.
