Happy Island Adds Picture Postcard Feature

Happy Island developer Crowdstar added the ability for players to take a snapshot of their island resort earlier this week, but with a special tourist twist.

Instead of a standard snapshot feature (which is common in social games), players can turn their pictures into postcards, add a special backdrops, and include messages. These postcards can then be sent to a player’s Facebook friends. It might not be as nice as sending a postcard from a real tropical island, but it still sounds like fun to us.

Players can access the new postcard feature via the camera icon at the bottom of the game screen.

Happy Pets 12 Days of Christmas Event Begins

Christmas is the time for giving, even in the world of social games. Crowdstar is showing their giving spirit today, announcing a special Happy Pets 12 Days of Christmas event.

The event itself is pretty simple. Starting Tuesday, December 14th, each day for the next 12 days players logging in to Happy Pets will receive a free Christmas themed item. At the end of the 12th day, (12/25 – Christmas Day) players that have collected all the freebies will receive one final bonus: a Mini Multi-Glow Elf Cat.

Players can RSVP for the event here, but note you don’t need to in order to receive the free gifts.

Happy Aquarium Introduces Deep Sea Props

Happy Aquarium developer Crowdstar introduced a handful of new tank decorations today, all with a deep sea theme. These new props will undoubtedly appeal to those tank managers attempting to keep their tanks at least somewhat realistic-looking.

New props include colorful corals, smoker vents, and elaborate deep sea plants. Best of all? They’re all available for coins! No FB$ needed. Will you be buying any for your tank? Or do you prefer the more outlandish decoration sets? Leave a comment and let us know!

Happy Aquarium Adds Hippie Items

Happy Aquarium developer Crowdstar has shown us plenty of times in the past that it isn’t afraid of having a little fun with their updates. Many items and fish that don’t (and couldn’t!) exist in the real world have been made available. The company has introduced a new collection of hippie fish and decorations, continuing this fine tradition.

Players can now purchase several groovy decorations for their fish tank, including a flower power bug and bus, and a 70s chair. New Tye-Dye and Disco tank wallpapers have also been released.

The highlight of the expansion is the the new John Lennon lookalike fish, however. It comes complete with a gigantic bushy mustache, and can be purchased for $5.20, or 62 pearls. There are only 1500 copies remaining.

Happy Island Adds Asian Items

Happy Island developer Crowdstar is giving players the opportunity to decorate their island resorts with more Oriental flair this week, with the addition of new Asian themed attractions and decorations.

So far, there are just three new items: Emily’s Arcade, Building H.I., and Joseon Watchtower. If this Asian expansion follows recent Happy Island trends, more themed decorations and attractions will be gradually added over the next several days.

Happy Island Celebrates Pirate Week

It’s pirate week in Crowdstar’s Happy Island. This means players can now purchase a variety of swashbuckling attractions and decorations, with more being added at a regular clip.

The new attractions added so far are: Swashbuckler Shanty, Raider’s Rack, Penzance Place, and Me Treasure. All four are permanent additions to the Happy Island shop.

The two new decorations are the Royal Interceptor, and 1i Will’s Ship. Oddly, due to how Happy Island’s decoration system works, both ships must be placed on land, and can’t be placed on water.

Happy Pets Adds Dragons

Happy Pets developer Crowdstar adds new pet species to the game on a regular basis, but few are quite as cool as this. Six pet dragons are now for sale in the Happy Pets store!

The dragons can only be purchased with FB$, and are currently for sale for $4.60. Their standard price is $6.60, however. The six dragon varieties are: White Fable, Blue Legend, Red Legend, Brown Fable, Green Mythic, and Black Mythic.

In addition to the standard differences in coloring, these dragons also can come with horns in different sizes and shapes.

Happy Aquarium Adds Leaf Collection

Happy Aquarium developer Crowdstar introduced the item collection feature several months ago, but hasn’t done much with it since. A new item collection was finally introduced this week, though – the game’s fifth. Players level 21 and higher can now complete the new Leaf Collection.

As with other Happy Aquarium item collections, there are nine items in total players will need to find. Three common, three uncommon, and three rare. Once all the leaves have been collected, players earn a special prize: an exclusive Leaf Fish!

Have you had any luck uncovering any of these collection items yet? Leave a comment and let us know.

Exclusive: Crowdstar’s Next Big Game: ‘It Girl’

Social Game Central learned today that Crowdstar’s next major social game is entitled It Girl. The game is a significant departure from the cute, cartoony style of previous Crowdstar games. Players instead play as a sophisticated city girl (the game begins in New York City), who wants nothing more than to keep up with the latest fashion trends, and be invited to the hottest parties.

Thanks to some good old fashioned sleuthing, we were able to discover that the game is already online and playable, although Crowdstar is not yet linking to it, or publicizing it in any way. Right now it only has 36 Facebook fans! Players can check the game out for themselves right here.

Crowdstar describes the purpose of It Girl thusly:

“The purpose of the game is to become the It Girl, the most stylish person at cool events around the world, surrounded by the biggest clique! Visit stores to search racks for fashionable outfits, attend events and Show Off against rivals for the It Girl title. “

Based on our play time with the game, we would call that description accurate. Players can shop in a variety of different stores for new clothing and accessories. Different clothing is appropriate for different types of parties (you wouldn’t wear an evening dress to a beach party), and also have a rarity, and a “hotness” level. One nice touch is that players have to browse the racks of the various stores to uncover what clothing is for sale.

After picking out the perfect (or required) outfit, players can then attend parties, and “Show Off” against other party girls. In a neat twist, the party attendees are actual It Girl players, wearing the clothing they wore when they attended that party. If your outfit is “hotter” than theirs, you gain confidence points. Otherwise, you lose them.

As a (straight) man in his 20s, It Girl is not meant for this editor’s demographic. But still, we give props to Crowdstar for creating something innovative and fresh in the increasingly stale social gaming space. It Girl’s extremely trivial & vapid theme does give us pause, however.

We’ll have more on this game as Crowdstar continues testing it in the coming weeks.

Crowdstar Launches Pop Boom

Crowdstar, the developer behind the “happy” line of social games Happy Pets, Happy Island, and Happy Aquarium, has flipped the switch on their latest title: Pop Boom! The game is quite different from all of Crowdstar previous titles. Instead of allowing players to decorate and grow a space, it is a one minute arcade title, similar to Popcap’s Bejeweled Blitz.

Players have one minute to pop as many balloons (or are they bubbles?) as they can. Players use their mouse to pick up a bubble, and can place it anywhere on the game screen. When three bubbles are aligned, they pop, and more come in from the bottom of the screen to take their place.

The game initially seems very simple, since players can place bubbles wherever they want. But players earn bonus points and can create power-ups by popping more than three balloons at once, or by creating cascading popping balloon combos. In Pop Boom, it pays to slow down (just a little) to try and think more than one move ahead.

Like many of these arcade-style games, they aren’t built to be played for hours at a time. Instead, it is fun to sign on and work for a bit to try and beat your friends’ high scores. Will Pop Boom be a huge hit like Bejeweled Blitz is for Popcap? That remains to be seen. We encourage games to try the game out for themselves, to see what they think.
