Mafia Wars Secret Santa Event Begins

Mafia Wars developer Zynga kicked off the holiday season a few days ago with the introduction of a new Secret Santa mission. The task is labeled as a “Secret Mission” but it doesn’t really seem that secret to us, since it is advertised right on the Mafia Wars home page. Secret or not, there is plenty of exclusive loot up for grabs, and that’s what truly matters, right?

To complete the mission, players will need the help of four of their friends. By making a Facebook wall post, players can give friends the opportunity to fill in as a Demolitions Expert, Bagman, Driver, or Electronics Expert. Players can also automatically fill any of the four slots by paying 10 Reward Points.

Once the roles are filled and the mission completed, the exclusive loot is then divided among the participants. The two rare items are a Field Raider vehicle (21 Attack, 71 Defense) and a D-07 Proximity Mine weapon (70 Attack, 39 Defense).

Mafia Wars: Las Vegas Chapters 7 & 8 Now Open

Mafia Wars developer Zynga continued the Las Vegas storyline this week, with the release of two more chapters for players to complete.

With the defeat of the Hill Bros. at the end of Chapter Six, players are now the undisputed kings of Las Vegas itself. But what about the rest of the state of Nevada? In Chapter 7 players will travel to Area 51. Chapter 8 takes players to the Hoover Dam, where they will ultimately oust the Nevada Governor himself.

To complete these chapters, players will need more than just large stockpiles of energy and cash. Hotel Key Cards, Alarm Codes, and Hot Tips are also required. They can be collected from previous Las Vegas Chapters.

Mafia Wars San Juan Event Begins

Mafia Wars developer Zynga introduced a new ‘It’s On in San Juan’ fighting event this week, but the rollout has experienced a few hiccups. Zynga has announced that they are now “slowly rolling out the event to avoid any game performance issues” due to its popularity.

This San Juan fighting event works very similarly to the previous Beat the Feds event. There are four bosses to defeat, and each boss has a Bronze, Silver, and Gold difficulty level. Every time a player defeats a boss they receive a new piece of powerful equipment. Once a harder version of that boss is defeated, the item’s stats are improved even further. Players that defeat the toughest version of each boss within the 10 day time limit win a special prize: The Outlander (112 Attack, 58 Defense).

Eventually, the bosses will become too tough for players to defeat on their own. Luckily players can enlist the help of their Mafia Wars playing friends to team up and take them down together.

Mafia Wars Mumbai Challenge Mission Begins

Mafia Wars developer Zynga has kicked off the game’s latest challenge mission! Players can now travel to Mumbai, India to make a killing at the Bollywood box office

This new Mumbai mission works very similarly to previous Mafia Wars challenge missions. Players will need to add one new friend to their Mafia to gain access, regardless of how many players are already in their crew. Once Mumbai has been unlocked, players have a total of three weeks to complete the challenge mission’s three chapters. Each chapter has an exclusive item reward.

Players will need to progress slowly to keep the heat off them, and play with patience, if they hope to succeed.

Mafia Wars Armored Truck Blowing Up TODAY

Two weeks ago Mafia Wars developer Zynga announced that they were buying an armored truck, driving it out to the Nevada desert and… blowing it sky high! Nothing like a good old fashioned marketing stunt to get some publicity.

Today, Zynga upped the stakes even more. It has been revealed that legendary Hip-Hop artist Snoop Dogg will be the person pushing the plunger down to trigger the explosion. An official time was also set – the event is going down today at 6PM PST / 9PM EST. Players can watch live at MafiaWarsLV.com.

Zynga Evaluating Mafia Wars Combat

Mafia Wars developer Zynga is asking players to take a survey, to better understand what they like and dislike about the game’s current player vs. player combat system. Unlike most requests for player feedback, this survey is fairly lengthy – nearly 25 questions. Perhaps Zynga is contemplating a major Mafia Wars PvP revamp?

Most of the questions revolve around the number and frequency of PvP attacks. Zynga is specifically asking players how many times they think one player should be able to attack another, over specific periods of time.

Players can participate in the survey by clicking this link.

Mafia Wars ‘Beat the Feds’ Event Begins

Mafia Wars developer Zynga is giving players a chance to take a break from Las Vegas, and practice their boss fighting skills. Players have ten days to defeat Agent Karlin, Agent Miller, D.E.A. Iverson, and D.A. Embry. The Mafia Wars fan page has a full description of the event, so we’ll let them do the talking for us:

“Are you ready for the Mafia Wars Boss Fight Event? Starting this Friday, you’ll get your chance to beat the Feds! For 10 days, you’ll be taking on 4 bosses with the help of your mafia, and will work on earning a coveted mastery item for Las Vegas. The bosses will each have 3 levels for you to beat. Once you beat them all at the first level, you progress to the next level to continue fighting for your mastery. Each level you complete will give you a special reward, so be sure to finish them all to claim all the prizes!

You’ll have to work quickly to beat the clock, so you can spread the word to your mafia to give you a hand. Helpers will be able to fight a boss as if they are facing the boss themselves. Here’s where it pays to be strong – the toughest helpers who do the most damage per boss fight will receive additional rewards like experience, Vegas cash, fight tokens, and LE items for their help.

If you want to pack a solid punch, you can prepare for battle by making sure you have plenty of consumables like health kits, shivs, and stun guns to help you along the way. There’s also safety in numbers – go recruit some new members to your mafia before the battle begins to better your odds of victory.”

Zynga to Blow Up an Armored Truck

Zynga’s marketing and promotions department is becoming more and more fond of big stunts, it seems. First the company announces that it is giving away over $100,000 worth of Island Cash to one lucky Treasure Isle player, and now the company has announced that it is going to blow up an armored truck, to promote Mafia Wars: Las Vegas. Yes, a real armored truck.

Details can be found on Zynga’s official Mafia Wars blog. Basically, once 10 million Mafia Wars players have visited Las Vegas, Zynga is going to take a 9000 pound truck and drive it out to the Nevada desert, fill it with dynamite, and then blow it sky high.

Mafiawars.com currently has a counter showing how many players have visited Vegas. As of this moment it is at 3,000,000 even. Once it hits the big 10 million mark… kaboom!

Zynga also announced that one Mafia Wars: Las Vegas player is going to be chosen at random to win a $25,000 prize, and that every week 10 players who have visited Vegas will win custom Mafia Wars iPads.

The armored truck explosion is a neat stunt to be sure, but we can’t help but think if Zynga skipped the pyrotechnics, they could be giving away two $25,000 prizes, instead of one. We knew Zynga was making loads of cash, but who knew they had enough money to literally burn?

Mafia Wars Vegas Now Available!

While some lucky Mafia Wars players were granted early access to the new Las Vegas expansion over a week ago, most mafiosos had to wait. As of today, the wait is over! Mafia Wars: Las Vegas is officially open to everyone.

Las Vegas brings many significant changes and upgrades to the Mafia Wars formula (we’ll have a full post on the expansion soon). Probably the two biggest changes are to the game’s mission structure, and properties system.

Players can now progress through the chapters via more than one path, based on whether they prefer to fight, complete missions, or enlist the help of their friends.

Additionally, instead of amassing several businesses, players instead earn Vegas income by expanding and upgrading a single casino.
