Cafe World Fans Picking Future Themes

Cafe World developer Zynga is asking their fans to help pick an upcoming item expansion! Players can participate in the poll here. Be sure to take part – it is only one question.

We normally wouldn’t pay too much attention to a survey like this, but we are making an exception in this instance for two reasons. First, Cafe World frequently drops big hints about upcoming game features in their user polls. Spices, Super Stoves, and other features were first hinted at in polls like this. Second, the last two Fishville item sets, Fanta Sea and Crystal Caverns, were chosen by Fishville fans. So it seems that Zynga is taking fan interaction a little more seriously these days.

The poll options are:
New York
Golf
Race Car
Bowling
8bit/video game
Steam Punk
Zombie
Aviation/inside a plane
English Pub
Coffee Shop
Heavy Metal

We picked the 8bit theme, like the good nerds we are. Zombies & Steampunk are also acceptable votes, in our opinion! Which of these potential themes is most exciting to you? Let us know in the comments below!

Cafe World Adds Mother’s Day Gifts

Cafe World developer Zynga has added three Mother’s Day items to the game’s gift tab. Like all gift tab items, this trio of new additions is free to send. Sounds like a pretty easy way to score some points with any Cafe World-playing moms out there, if you ask us!

The three additions are: Mother’s Day Candy Box, Mother’s Day Cookies, and Mother’s Day Teddy Bear. These items don’t have a listed expiration date, but it is probably safe to assume they won’t be around much longer after the 9th, so players should send these exclusive gifts now, while they still can.

Cafe World Adds Hip & Modern Decorations

Cafe World developer Zynga returned today (there was no item update to Cafe World last week) with a large set of ‘Hip & Modern’ decorations. The update is a day early, too. Cafe World updates are usually on Wednesdays.

In any case, we’ll leave it to you, the readers, to determine whether this “Hip & Modern” item set meets that description or not. The sleek new tables and chairs fit the bill in our opinion, but we aren’t quite as sure about the Blue Neon Door or the Purple Tube Pillar.

New decorations highlights include: Sensual Singer, Welcome Hostess, Golden Abstract Statue, Baby Grand Piano, Waterfall Divider, Bongo Beater, Light Streams Wallpaper, Blue Mood Light, Orange Lit Drink Rack, and Classic Fireplace.

Restaurant City Releases Mexican Taqueria Expansion

Restaurant City’s Japanese-themed updates finally concluded this week, replaced with another set of ethnic decorations and menu items. A large collection of Mexican Taqueria items are now available! What better way to celebrate Cinco de Mayo?

To kick things off, new starters, main dishes, and deserts have been added to the Restaurant City menu. Players can now learn, level-up, and serve Tostadas, Beef Enchiladas, and Mexican Flan. Only one of the three recipes requires beans. Who knew?

New indoor decorations include: Mexican Table, Cactus Chair, String of Chiles, Mexican Spice Rack, Cactus Juice, Cacti Jose, and a Tortilla Stove. The highlight of the new items is undoubtedly the fully-animated Mariachi band, though. The Los Santo Bros. (as Playfish calls them) cost an impressive 90,000 coins. In addition to just looking cool, they also raise customer patience by +1 second.

New outdoor decorations include a Sombrero Roof, an outdoor mariachi band, and Cactus Jose (Cacti Jose’s brother perhaps?).

No word on whether this Mexican theme will carry over into next week like the Japanese theme did, but given that Cinco de Mayo isn’t until next Wednesday, it seems like a pretty reasonable guess.

Cafe World Amps Up Cake Vs. Pie Rhetoric

Cafe World developer Zynga has been participating in – nay – facilitating a war between desserts for some time now. It seems the company is determined to use Cafe World players to solve the age-old dessert debate: cake, or pie?

This debate seems to have grown into a full-fledged “Dessert Madness” tournament. Players can vote in the first “Pie Division” match-up, Mud Pie Vs. Strawberry Pie, by answering a single question right here. Players can also show their allegiance by buying “Got Cake” or “Got Pie” shirts for their cafe staff in the Cafe World shop.

If this battle heats up much more, we might just have to change our name to Dessert Madness Central.

Cafe World Introduces Friend Dish Spicing

Cafe World developer Zynga added a nifty new social feature to their hit restaurant title today, giving players more reason to visit and interact with their friends’ cafes.

Now, when visiting a neighbor’s cafe, players are given the opportunity to add spices to one of their dishes. These spices are free of charge, and aren’t taken from a player’s personal spice supply. Neighbor stoves can even be spiced by players that haven’t completed their own spice racks, yet.

Players can only spice one stove per neighbor per day, and the spice they receive is random. Besides just being a neighborly thing to do, players also receive a bonus for spicing up their neighbor’s dishes. A small amount of coins and cafe cash are awarded for each neighbor spicing, and other, bigger bonuses can occasionally be earned as well. In our tests, we earned a spice rack part for helping our neighbor out.

All in all, this feature reminds us of when farm plot fertilizing was first added to Farmville. It’s good to introduce more incentives to encourage players to visit and help their friends. Features like this help make social games feel more social.

Restaurant City Adds Exclusive Sushi Bar Reward

Restaurant City developer Playfish recently added what may be the crown jewel of the game’s long-running Japanese decor expansion: a fully-animated rotating sushi bar! Getting one isn’t easy, however. The only way players can obtain the new sushi bar is to advance their Salmon Sashimi recipe to level 10.

Luckily, Salmon Sashimi is a permanent addition to the Restaurant City menu, and isn’t a limited time offer like many of the game’s themed recipes. Learning the dish requires two Salmon and one Wasabi. This means that to reach level 10, players will need 20 Salmon and ten Wasabi total.

Players can gift the ingredients to one another, trade for them, or find them in mystery boxes in their neighbor’s restaurants. These new mystery crates pop up at random when visiting neighbors, and contain a random ingredient or decoration. Finally, players can also purchase either ingredient with Playfish Cash if they aren’t patient enough to gift or trade with friends.

The Sushi Bar itself serves two customers, and displays all of the player’s royal Japanese dishes.

Restaurant City Expands Japanese Item Set

Restaurant City developer Playfish added another batch of Japanese-themed items this week. This is the third week in a row Playfish has stuck with the Far East theme for their restaurant title. Perhaps players should get used to more long-term item updates, instead of receiving a brand new themed update every Thursday? Flagship Zynga title Farmville is also running a long-term Asian-themed item expansion, this month.

The first update seemed to focus on general sushi bar decor, and last week’s update revolved around zen garden decor. This week the loose theme seems to be technology and more modern Japanese decor, although there are a few exceptions. New items include: animated Ad Post, Giant Red Maki, Giant Sakura Mochi, Octopus Statue, Dance Arcade game, Monster Robot, and Hello Bunny.

Players can also decorate the outside of their restaurant with a new Japanese Billboard, Neon Signs, Mount Fuji, and Tokyo Tower.

Cafe World Adds Undersea Aquarium Decorations

Cafe World developer Zynga added a variety of underwater-themed decor items to their restaurant sim, this week. Like all Cafe World item sets, the new decorations are for sale for a mixture of coins and Cafe Cash.

New decorations include: Underwater Waiter, Sea Horse, Jellyfish Table, Kelp Divider, Jellyfish, Coral Clump, Giant Aquarium, Wide Whale Door, and Treasure Chest Bench.

In our opinion this is one of the better Cafe World item packs. There’s lots of little details that give it personality – chairs shaped like shrimp, an “obsessive octopus” that is eternally cleaning a wall, and many more great touches.

As always, an aquatic Mystery Chest is available for 10 Cafe Cash, for those players that are willing to save a little money by receiving a random premium item, instead of buying them individually.

Restaurant City Adds More Japanese Items

Restaurant City developer Playfish broke the mold this week, and stayed with the Japanese theme it first introduced last week. Normally, every week is a brand-new set of items, adhering to a new theme.

While the theme might not have changed, there are still lots of new items for Restaurant City fans to purchase. New additions include: Toy Egg Machine, Zen Gazebo, Zen Garden Pond, Zen Waterfall, Garden Fireplace, Garden Lamp, Stone Lantern, Japanese Sliding Door, and several more.

The only new outdoor decoration is a Manga Figurine.

With the bulk of this week’s new items having an outdoor flavor, players should have everything they need to build a Japanese Zen Garden.
